I’ve finally come around to investigating the various issues many are having with my Wordpress Guestbook Generator plugin. The one major problem is the page ends up not having a form where users can input their details and actually sign the guestbook. That in itself defeats the purpose of the guestbook!

Let me try to answer each predicament one by one:

First of all, I apologize for the delay as I have been busy lately with some projects and a job I’m applying for. The lack of time simply did not allow me to update my plugins.

Anyway, here’s something that everyone’s been clamoring for. I understand that guestbooks tend to get a lot of comments, that’s why many suggested that I add a paging feature. Actually there’s a plugin that does that, but on the downside, the guestbook templates don’t pick it up.

I’m ready to take on another Wordpress plugin project. However, I can’t think of a plugin that someone else hasn’t already done. Any ideas?

Edit: I’m currently working on a plugin suggestion made by Abe on his blog. It’s 97% done but I have to test it further before I can release it. Hint: It’s currently on my sidebar. Watch out for it!

I created a couple of posts that demonstrated how to make a Wordpress Guestbook. Some of you might have found it a bit daunting, so here’s a plugin that will do everything for you!

Plugin Name: Guestbook Generator
Description: Generates a guestbook for Wordpress blogs. Once activated, click on Options > Guestbook Generator.
Version: 0.8
Author: Andrew dela Serna
Notice: Compatible only with Wordpress 2.1. Support for older versions will continue but updates/upgrades will be focused on the newest versions of Wordpress. Scroll down to download Version 0.7 which is designed for Wordress 2.0.X.

Features:

1. No files to edit. Just upload the plugin, activate it then run the generator.
2. Guestbook template seamlessly integrates with your current theme.
3. When changing themes, simply run the generator to create the necessary files.
4. Like a true-blue guestbook, entries are arranged from newest to oldest.
5. Remember the time when guestbooks were the “in” thing? Hopefully this plugin will bring back the ol’ days. Hehe.

StatTraq Bug

For anyone using Randy Peterman’s StatTraq, there’s a small bug in one of the files that might cause an error message to appear at the footer of your Wordpress blog.

Open up stattraq.php in a text editor and scroll down to line 90 (approximately).

Change:

else if($strpos($ua, 'MSIE 2') !== false)

to

else if(strpos($ua, 'MSIE 2') !== false)

Save the file and upload to your server.

I was doing my homework on upgrading my plugins a while ago and discovered an awesome Wordpress plugin called “Edit N Place” by Headzoo’s Sean Hickey. It kinda speaks for itself. Made possible with AJAX, what it does is it allows you to edit your articles, their categories and tags right from your blog’s front page! What a time saver! One of the best Wordpress plugins ever created. Add that to my list of plugins I can’t do without.

Here’s a screenshot of the plugin at work:

Wordpress Upgrade

Viewed 746 times

Easier than I thought, whew. I just upgraded my Wordpress software from version 1.5 to 2.0.3. Even though I’ve read a lot of bad things about it, it’s still way better! The best thing is that all my plugins are compatible. But I think I have to upgrade them to their newest versions.

Some plugins I cannot do without:

  • Photopress
  • Bunny’s Technorati Tags

If you know of other essential plugins I should include, leave me a note!

A couple of my cousins run a fashion blog at Shopchicks.com and have been promoting some of their posts via Stylehive.com, a Digg-style bookmarking service directed at fashion and trendy items found on the Internet.

To make their lives easier, and perhaps for other fashionista bloggers out there, I created a new Wordpress plugin that adds a Stylehive bookmarklet below each post as well as your Stylehive badge.

Some details on the plugin:

Plugin Name: Stylehive It
Description: Easy plugin that allows your visitors to bookmark your fashion-related posts to their Stylehive.com account. Also adds your Stylehive badge.

Isulong Seoph Wordpress Plugin

I thought it would be cool to create a plugin just for the Isulong Seoph contest.

So I did. Look at the lower right side and you’ll see the fruits of my work or my Isulong Seoph entry for a more updated demo.

That list is pretty much in real time, which makes it a cool widget to add to your own Isulong blog that’s on Wordpress.

Update: Plugin now works in Wordpress 1.5 and 2.0.

Plugin Name: Isulong Seoph
Description: Displays top 10 Google results and site rank for the keywords ‘isulong seoph’ in connection to the first ever Philippine SEO contest. Configurable to display results for a different set of keywords for other SEO competitions.
