Great (and Free) MP3 Finds

Searching for excellent MP3’s to download? Look no further! After rummaging the Internet for a couple hours, I found a trove of awesome songs that are freely and legally downloadable. Enjoy!

  • DJ Earworm – This guy is my absolute favorite remix artist. His work, My Life Would Suck Without You In My Place, that combines songs by Kelly Clarkson and Coldplay is an instant classic. Check out his 2008 and 2009 anthems to those years’ hit songs. And don’t miss his latest genius, Like OMG, Baby, that uses individual voice recordings of the artists including Usher and Justin Bieber (IKR).

  • Coldplay – If you’re a Coldplay fan, you simply could not ignore downloading their free live album, LeftRightLeftRightLeft. It includes an all-time favorite song of mine, Viva La Vida, also Fix You and Clocks. The recording includes screaming fans and obligatory applause, but nonetheless outstanding.

  • Damien Rice – Witness Rice’s warm, understated style in this song collection. It’s a shame that Blower’s Daughter wasn’t included in the list.

  • Postal Service – Offers a few free songs on their site. They have that Owl City vibe, but darker. I wish they get out of their hiatus, fast.

Google Marks Philippine Independence Day with Doodle

Google Doodle - Philippine Independence

For the second time Google gives honor to our Independence Day (Araw ng Kalayaan) with another “doodle” on the homepage of Google.com.ph.

Last year’s doodle was a little more straightforward and traditional. The golden sun replaced the first “o” while the three stars are pinned to mark their places on the Philippine flag. This time Google made it more whimsical, using swirls and lines to form the sun and stars. It almost reminds me of Van Gogh’s “Starry, Starry Night”. The first doodle holds a special place in my heart (so much that I wrote about it), but I really love the second one! Cheers to Google!

Pic Your President

There’s only a few days until the elections. Here is your chance to be heard! Pic Your President is an engaging, visual mock poll that allows users to vote for their Presidential candidate and state why they are voting for him or her. A user can vote only once using their Facebook account, but has the option to agree or disagree about others’ votes and opinions. Looks like Dick Gordon is making a killing as I write this, he has 817 votes so far! Gibo Teodoro is second with 333 votes. Noynoy fans where are you?!?

Piclyf is a pet project of my startup company, Twidl Inc. Help spread the word!

Happy Earth Day

Happy Earth Day! Let’s try to be more aware of our surroundings and think of what we could do to help protect it. That is the gist of Earth Day. Love our Mother Earth!

Google loves our planet, so expect a Google Doodle very soon. 🙂 And they love telescopes too. Expect a surprise on the 24th!

Hireme Template for Jobberbase 1.8

Here is the Hireme Template for Jobberbase 1.8. I hacked the original template used on Hireme.sg for My Davao Jobs. I posted the site on the Jobberbase forums to show it off, forgot about it, until somebody emailed me to say that some people wanted the template. Due to my busy schedule and selective amnesia, I wasn’t able to revisit the template and work on its release. I don’t remember all the hacks that I did, neither did I validate it, so please use at your own risk. If you’re experiencing trouble with it, please leave a comment below and I’ll see what I can do to help you. This template isn’t mine, I hacked it merely for my own use. I left some links in the footer.tpl file to credit my efforts. I hope you don’t mind. 🙂

Download the template here. Demo it here.

Google Nexus One Ringtone: Iconoclasts

I searched far and wide for this ringtone. You might say, “What the heck is Iconoclasts?” Iconoclasts is a biographical show produced by the Sundance Channel that is shown here in the Philippines on the Lifestyle Channel. I love this program but I wish they’d show newer episodes. Peter Nashel composed the catchy music that plays in the opening credits. If you’re looking for an MP3 of it, you’ve come to the right place. Download it here. Enjoy!

How to Set Custom Notification Tones for Google Nexus One

As I was tinkering with my new Google Nexus One phone, I was bummed to learn that I couldn’t easily change the notification tone setting to a custom MP3 file. One trick that worked was by connecting the Nexus to my PC and mounted the SD card. Then, I created three new folders in the root folder: notifications, ringtones and alarms. I saved the MP3 files to their respective folders and voila.. the custom sounds now show up in the list of tones. If you want different tones for each app (Messaging, Gmail, Gtalk e.g.), go into their settings and manually assign a unique sound file so you’ll know where the new message is coming from. I love my new phone! More tips coming soon.
