Google PageRank Updates, Why People Hate Ranks and Why Spiderman 3 Ranks Low

The new Google PageRank updates are now reflecting on our toolbars. Thanks to the SEO Philippines message board for the heads up. Again, Google has been kind to me. Ok maybe too kind. Besides maintaining my directory’s PR 7, all the top categories have garnered a PR 6 each, including a good number of lower categories. My two other blogs, Darn Slick and My Davao City both shot up to PR 5. It’s also great to hear that a lot of Seo.ph members earned some PR gains on their sites.

I see Google PageRank as a “please factor’ that I like to look at on my toolbar every now and then. I tend to just work on content and backlinks and leave it to Google to judge if I’m doing a nice job. Other sites link to me not just for the sake of it. They link to me because I give them good reason to — great, original, interesting content. If that reflects on my PageRank, then wonderful. A high PageRank does go a long way in SEO terms — you get crawled more frequently, thus keeping your cache fresh, you get a better chance of ranking higher for keywords you’re targeting and as a result you get higher traffic. I’m an SEO junkie, so don’t blame me for liking PageRank or any kind of rank for that matter.

Mario Lavandeira, whose online alias-slash-blog Perez Hilton hit more than a million unique visitors last July 18, a first for the site. That’s 1 million hits for one day, mind you. His next goal is to reach the 2 million mark. Notice the pun on Paris Hilton? Perez Hilton basically follows the lives of people like Paris Hilton — yes, those types of celebrities — those who bank their fame on how the spend their money, what they wear, who they hang out with, where they hang out and how much weight they’ve lost or gained.

X-Men Movie Prequel?

There is talk that a prequel to the X-Men movie trilogy may be in the offing.

If you’ve already seen X-Men: The Last Stand (if not, don’t continue), there’s a scene (circa 20 years ago) where Eric Lehnsherr (Magneto) and Professor Charles Xavier pay a visit to the Grey household to check on a telekinetic girl named Jean. Amazingly, the actors McKellen and Stewart look twenty times younger, thanks to a digital ‘airbrushing’ technology that zapped ages from their faces.

Stewart was so impressed, he said, “The technology could come in handy if plans for “X-Men” prequels ever materialize”. “Ian was saying the other day there has been talk of a prequel with a younger Magneto and Xavier,” Stewart said. “Well, here we are, Ian and I. Wheel us out and spend the money on the technology.”

Transformers the Movie

The buzz surrounding the upcoming “Transformers the Movie” is heating up!

I admit that I’m a Transformers junkie. I practically grew up watching the darned cartoon (and G.I. Joe).

Here’s a clip of Optimus Prime transforming to his robot self:

Another one that looks that of the Autobot Jazz, but as a beetle:

Cool huh? But they’re not officially from the movie, which is still in its pre-production stage. Michael Bay directs with Steven Spielberg in tow as producer. Shia LaBeouf (of Even Stevens, Charlie’s Angels) is rumored to play Spike Witwicky. This is already a blockbuster right from the beginning.

Thanks to 3dblasphemy and Michael Smith for whetting my appetite.
Join the countdown to July 4, 2007.

Here’s a little kinda un-funny story:

My mom was visiting me in New York one summer for my graduation. So we had the usual catching up to do and her fussing me to clean my apartment more often, find a job and basically get a life. After a few weeks she left and we went on with our lives. To my horror, I discovered that my $250 mint condition Optimus Prime (that I bought on Ebay) was missing!! I practically lost half of my hair looking for it until she called to say that she made it safe back to Manila. Being the mother that she is, she sensed in the tone of my voice that something was wrong. I said that I lost my very expensive Optimus Prime robot. She asked, albeit nonchalantly, “Oh, is that the toy truck I found in your closet?” I said “Yeah!??” “I brought it along with me. I’m going to give it to your baby cousin Marc.” To make the story short, I went nuts. And I did get it back.
