Elton John: Close Down the Internet!

First, Elton John hates the iPod, now he wants the Internet closed down. Elton John claims that the Internet is “destroying good music” and “stopped people from going out and being with each other, creating stuff”. He continues, “Instead they sit at home and make their own records, which is sometimes OK but it doesn’t bode well for long-term artistic vision.”

Ok, even if I agree that the Internet has become the bane of the music industry, I don’t know why Elton John would assume that all of us were sitting at home creating our own records. Ignorance? Probably. Elton did admit before that he was a technophobe — yes, someone who’s afraid of technology. Never trust a technophobe who talks about technology, by the way. It is ironic that while he calls the iPod “silly” and wants to “close down the Internet”, he announced back in March 2007 that his entire catalog of songs will be available for download through iTunes. Go figure.

And he has something interesting to say about bloggers too:

We’re talking about things that are going to change the world and change the way people listen to music and that’s not going to happen with people blogging on the internet.

Ouch.

Let’s get out in the streets and march and protest instead of sitting at home and blogging.

No wait, what?

I’m just as confused as you are. Let’s get this straight: We create our own records at home and we do that through … blogging? Sir Elton got all his techno-speak mixed up!

I got the highest respect for this guy and I just might start listening to his songs from now on, just for kicks!

  1. Evidently, we “little people” should go outside to sing and dance with our neighbors instead of working for a living. This is not to disparage Elton John’s talent, he is objectively brilliant, but when liberals get money or power there is no telling just how pompous and ignorant they become.

You can see my take on this matter at Copious Dissent – Your Daily Dose of Liberty.

  2. There are certain people who are afraid of the advancements of technology because they might be left out in the long run.
