Pinoy Evil Blog Awards Polls Now Open

Voting for Paolo Mendoza’s Pinoy Evil Blog Awards has begun! This awards is the best thing that happened to our blogosphere before Malu Fernandez ate her way into the limelight, albeit to the dismay of our heroic OFW’s.

My blogger friend Winston Almendras of Batang Yagit informed me about the Pinoy Evil Blog Awards and rightly so because I nominated him for the Boy Bastos Writing Award category. I am officially the campaign manager for Winston to nab this award. Please vote for him!!

I’m one of Winston’s biggest fans. He’s a good kid with a big heart and extraordinary talent. Now, let’s all show him our support by voting for him as the next Boy Bastos. Incidentally, I also nominated my homeboy Jehz Laurente for the Evil Blog of the Year Award, but was disqualified because he’s one of the twin geniuses behind the whole thing. Shame.

The poll for the Boy Bastos Writing Award is here. Winston’s blog is Batang Yagit. Registration is required before you can vote.

Blogging News

The biggest blogging party is all set for tomorrow, August 23. Nameplates are being printed, but it’s not too late to register. Kudos to Aileen Apolo.

Jayvee’s Blog and Soul movement launched yesterday at the Manila Pavillion, with a pile of cookies to boot. Mrs. Fields sponsored this event to do their own launching of the Mrs. Fields Cafe in UN Avenue. Now, they just put my two most favorite things in one place: coffee and cookies! Not too thrilled about it being on UN Avenue though.

Noemi meets with Alan Ocab, the kid blogger’s dad. They patch things up and learn they’re both Cebuanos. If I might have hurt father and son, apologies are in order. Sorry Carl. The beauty of freedom of speech is you can blog about anything you want, but be prepared for the worst. I’m not part of a mafia nor trying to shove my “ethics” up anyone’s noses. No, you got it all wrong. Filipinos have creative imaginations though.

Malu Fernandez and Jayvee Fernandez are not related. Of all scandals that got the local blogosphere fired up, Malu takes the cake. She ate it, and it shows. Happily, Jayvee moves on.

Win a date with Ria Jose! Applications ongoing.

Ratified.org now ranking Australian blogs. Thanks to Meg for the plug.

There are now more than a hundred blogs listed in the Mindanao Blog Directory. I bet there are hundreds if not thousands more we’re not aware of. Bloggers on Livejournal, Multiply and Tabulas should seriously speak up and make themselves known.

Know more about the Mindanao Blog Awards 2007. It aims to give recognition to the finest of weblogs of, in, or about Mindanao. I designed the logo, btw. :)

Twitter = Tabloid 2.0?

I must say, I’ve become addicted to Twitter. Twitter has become my daily tabloid, where all the news, gossips and blind items are fed. All you gotta do is follow the right people (like me, wink2x). Sometimes I find myself spending too much time refreshing my browser tab, waiting for new twits to show up. I don’t recommend that though, unless you’re that bored. If you’re using Firefox, there’s an excellent, unobtrusive plugin called Twitterfox that keeps you updated on what your fellow twitter-ers are up to while you’re actually doing something productive.

Making Money At Home Through Your 13-Year Old Child

Is it right to ask your own child to be your ghost writer?

I’ve been having my suspicions about this kid ever since he started blogging about “making money”. I mean, he’s only 13 right? How can he talk about moneymaking like it’s a piece of cake? Where are all his insights coming from? When I was 13, I was just entering puberty, throwing away all my toys and thinking of only one thing (hmm..) And honestly, I wouldn’t have had enough smarts to talk about making money, let alone any remotely interesting topic that’s bloggable. Then again, there was no such thing as a blog that time, but I digress.

The Fastest Internet

I wish I can say the same thing for my crappy MyDSL. This lucky 75-year-old lady in Sweden boasts a 40-gigabits-per-second fiber-optic connection, so far the fastest residential Internet speed recorded. Sigbritt Lothberg, hardly the web cybergeek, has her son Peter, a networking expert, and his friend Hafsteinn Jonsson to thank. Peter simply wanted to demonstrate that it was possible to achieve such blazing fast speeds.

Elton John: Close Down the Internet!

First, Elton John hates the iPod, now he wants the Internet closed down. Elton John claims that the Internet is “destroying good music” and “stopped people from going out and being with each other, creating stuff”. He continues, “Instead they sit at home and make their own records, which is sometimes OK but it doesn’t bode well for long-term artistic vision.”

Local Online Newspapers Don’t Find RSS Real Simple

It’s not too late for our local online newspapers to discover the beauty of RSS implementation. For the Philippine Daily Inquirer (PDI), the nation’s most popular website, the saying “It’s lonely at the top” couldn’t be more fitting, because, out of all the major newspapers, it is the only one that offers a full range of RSS feeds. From Breaking News and Infotech to Exam Results and Podcasts, an avid feed subscriber can choose only the specific topics he’s interested in.

Simpsonize Me

I had a blast watching the Simpsons movie yesterday with some friends. I laughed my ass off the hardest during the “Spiderpig, spiderpig” part. Hahaha. Anyway, I discovered a site they made where you can convert yourself into a Simpsons character, aptly called “Simpsonize Me“. You’ll need to upload a 640×480 frontal face pic of yourself and wait a few minutes.

Here’s a dorky picture of me:
