Philippine Blog Awards 2007

Waw, today I found out that I’m nominated for Best Technology Blog at the 2007 Philippine Blog Awards. Whoever that person is and whatever he was high on when he nominated me, thanks to both of you!! Although I don’t consider myself a very good blogger, I’m flattered.

Thanks, thanks, thanks.

Here’s the complete list of nominees.

The Davao Blog Party #1

Blogie, Marc, Kim, Ria, Jun and I met a few hours ago at Blugre MTS to discuss our upcoming Davao Blog Party to be held on Saturday, March 17, 2007. The newly-opened NetFront Coffee Shop and Internet Cafe will serve as the venue. There were a few jokes thrown here and there but I’m glad to report that this time we got somewhere. Kim was nice enough to agree to plug the event on her radio show (she DJ’s part-time). Apart from that she’s also responsible for “physical arrangements”. Sounds like a weird sexual medical saga, but no that just means that she decides where all the attendees will be seated. We joked that Ria would be cooking the food at NetFront’s kitchen. But no she’ll only coordinate with whoever will cater the event. There were more senseless stuff about chicken sandwiches, cheese pimiento spreads and oven toasters to be raffled off which I’d rather not dwell on.

Of All Names, Why Mine?

I saw an ad in the Philippine Daily Inquirer yesterday that more or less pissed the hell out of me. It was for “the country’s first mobile instant messenger”, Yehba. Yeah, you read that right, YEHBA. I dunno if they unknowingly picked that name, I don’t care, it’s too close to mine in pronunciation. Alleba has been around since 2001, so they can’t claim that they thought of it first.

It’s no secret that Alleba is pronounced a-yeh-bah (yes, double L’s (LL) take on the letter Y). I might not be that famous but even so these guys couldn’t be more blatant. I worked hard on my brand and I continue to do so. I’ll have to talk to some people to see what actions I must take to protect it.

The new Google Webmaster Central brings together all the tools webmasters need to monitor and optimize the way the big G treats their sites. I think that it’s about time they came up with this. Gone are the days when we have to search for link:domain to check for backlinks. It’s all there at Webmaster Central. Simply log on to your Google account, add your site and verify it through meta tags or HTML.

Davaoeños Eyeball

I had a little eyeball with other Davaoeño bloggers last night at the 51 Cafe near Victoria Plaza. It was nice to know that there’s more of us here in the city. Well, maybe just 6 more. It was my first time to meet Bloggie Robillo, Marc Javellana, Jim, Dominique, Floraine and Chris. Newly-mowed Jun and sizzling Ria Jose were there too. The discussions often digressed from planning a blog party to some geeky open source evangelisms. I, for one, like Windows XP. Lol. It was kinda hard to butt in guys. But don’t get me wrong, Microsoft reeks.

After the whole thing everything about the blog party was still up in the air except for one thing — the date: March 17, 2007. I heard from the grapevine that Dennis and Jun will contribute a chunk of their Ituloy Angsulong winnings to the party. Yeah, more food! More drinks! Speaking of guests, Blogie said that Janette Toral will be there. Right now we’re also trying to get Aileen Apolo to attend.

If you’re interested in sponsoring our event, don’t hesitate to contact me: andrew [@] alleba.com. Or visit Mr. Robillo’s blog.

Has My Blog Grown?

Am I doing things right with my blog? I only took the craft (semi-)seriously last June 2006. Using that as a starting point, let’s make an assessment using Abe’s 5 Ways to Check Blog Growth:

Feedburner Subscribers - Then: 0 Now: 156 (it actually went up to about 3,000 but that’s obviously whacked)
Alexa Rank - Before: Hard to tell, my blog’s in a subfolder. *sigh*
Blog Worth - Before: probably less than $100 Now: $89,761.86
Blog Juice - Before: 0 Now: 4.4
SEOMoz Page Strength - Before: 0 Now: 5.0

Make that 10 ways to check blog growth:
Google Pagerank - Then: 0 Now: 6
Pinoy Top Blogs Rank - Then: (Pathetic)th Now: 38th
Technorati Rank - Then: in the millions Now: 21,223
Technorati Links - Then: 0 Now: 256 links from 159 blogs
Blogger Friends - Then: 0 Now: Countless (naks!)

Here are other places you might want to check out:
Domain Valuation from LeapFish.com - (mine is worth a cool $1 million lol)

Looking at Dennis Agulo’s Seobunker, two entries from Davao City are making a killing in the rankings! Fellow Davaoeno Jun Macha-macallit (who’s kinda makulit) is currently in second place while Dennis himself is in the top 8. Wow, go team Davao!!

Link love: (don’t forget my coffee and dessert guys)

These rankings are at best preliminary. There’s still 19 days to go. Anything could happen then! Good luck everyone!
